Crash Course
Along with permanent classes of Piano and Keyboard, Purvi Ranka’s Academy also provides short term courses to learn keyboard and piano.
These courses aim at providing a strong foundation where learning is a process of constant discovery.
These courses will lay the foundation for acquiring clarity of concepts of Chords, Steady Beat, Rhythm, Tempo, Pitch, Volume and Note Values building the foundation.
These courses are built with the objective of clearing the basic concepts of the instrument.
It is classified for beginners, intermediates and experienced players into Basic Course , Intermediate Course and Advanced course respectively.
After the completion of all 3 courses , the students will be able to express their musical ideas and feelings, use their creativity, imagination and intuition for the pieces and songs they learn, develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of the instrument and reflect on and evaluate their progress.
We offer three courses based upon the level of playing – Basic , Intermediate and Advance. You can choose the course depending upon your knowledge , basics and understanding.
BASIC COURSE
The Basic course aims at introducing all the concepts of music.
This course is designed in such a way that all the new players drive their interest towards piano or electronic keyboard.
In Basic Course the following things are taught :
- Basics of keyboard – all about the notes and keys
- Easy songs like Happy Birthday , Twinkle Twinkle , Do re mi , National Anthem , Vande Matram and more
- All Major scales
- Bollywood or Hollywood song depending upon the interest
Ten sessions are conducted for the Basic Course. These sessions can be solo or group depending on the requirement.
INTERMEDIATE COURSE
This course can only be done after the completion of the Basic Course.
This course focuses more on the left hand , therefore training the students to play with both hands.
It also includes the concept of Ear Training, which helps the students to transcribe (to play on piano) any music they hear.
In Intermediate Course the following things are taught :
- Basics of left hand
- All the songs learnt in Basic Course with both hands
- All about major , minor , sharp and flat chords
- All sharp scales
- Transcribing – various ear exercises
- New songs with both hands
Eight to Ten sessions are conducted for Intermediate Course. However , the number of sessions varies depending upon one’s progress.
ADVANCE COURSE
This course can be done after the completion of the Intermediate Course.
This course aims at introducing the different types of rhythm and genres to the students.
By the end of this course, each student will be able to play the songs with both hands along with the rhythm.
This course includes the concept of Improvisation – the theory of making and composing own music
In Advanced Course the following things are taught :
- All about the rhythms, metronome, time signature and different genres of music
- All flat and minor scales
- All songs with both hands along with rhythm
- Different exercises to Improvise beautifully
Eight Sessions are conducted in this course. After the completion of this course , one will be able to express his ideas and music effectively

Improvising
A good ability to improvise marks the difference between a player and a professional Improvisation is the activity of making or doing something not planned beforehand, using whatever can be found. It is very important to improvise effectively, beautifully and patiently. While performing for an audience the quality of improvising stands out. We ensure that every student learning with us build the best skill of improvising through our different fun methods.
Transcribing
Every player aspires to play the music immediately on piano after listening to it at once . This is known as Transcribing. Transcribing refers to playing a melody mixed with different instruments on piano. This can only be achieved with effective ear training. We conduct various exercises to train your ears so that you can transcribe effectively.
Fun Activities
We always pay attention to the fact that each class should be different. We never encourage monotonous classes. In each class we try to include different activities and games which helps us to interact with the students and form a bond and helps them to learn music in a fun way. To keep classes different , interactive, lively and knowledgeable is always our first and last goal.
